Thinking too much about a decision before I commit has lead to self doubt every time. I think that by getting more information and learning more I'll feel more confident and prepared. Instead, it seems that ignorance is really the way to go about starting a difficult project or task.
This is so true Kyle. My ignorance about things has helped me learn so much through the years. I usually dive in and start learning as I go at it. It also makes me think of a quote from the philosopher, Bruce Lee. “If you spend too much time thinking about a thing, you'll never get it done. Make at least one definite move daily toward your goal.”
💯 I hadn’t animated until I decided to make an animated surf documentary. If I would have know the insane amount of work that goes into animating, plus making a documentary, my rational self would have said, “nah I’m good.” But, I went for it out of ignorance. My hard drive crashes one third of the way through making the film and I lost hundreds of drawings having to start over. Again, ignorance. 😂
Yes. Took the “David Goggins” approach lol, and stuck with it until the end. I made the film for an audience of one, and now it’s receiving awards from film festivals, which is shocking. I give the film away to people who share with me what makes them Stoked. Stoked with a capital “S”, starts on the inside. Stoker Machine is about sharing what makes a person Stoked. Your definitely invited to share what makes you Stoked! I’d be honored to share the film with you. 🤙🏽🌊
Great article!! I feel that often times what holds me back the most, is thinking I have to know exactly what and how to do everything... I end up spending more time trying to get it all together than just going ahead and doing it. That I need to take classes and learn all about drawing/painting/backgrounds/animation/writing/socialmedia/etc before i can ever start making comics. Any more advices?
I understand this dilemma well. I think one helpful thing would be to break bigger tasks/goals into smaller pieces and only focus on those, one at a time. Don’t overwhelm yourself! Step by step, you’ll get there.
Loved this!
Thanks for reading, Anita. Glad you liked it!

There are always exceptions to the rule, but I have found that this is often the case!

You can't go wrong with Bruce Lee! Thanks for this, Nor.

But did you get it done in the end and was it a good learning experience and a good animation? Would love to know!

Great outcome, Darieus! I'm impressed.
What makes me stoked? Teaching.
Incredible! What an amazing gift to give the world. What’s the best way to send you the film? It’s a Vimeo link with a password. 🤙🏽🌊
