Downtime Drawings
When I'm not drawing for work.
I am one of the lucky few who has a paying gig doing something related to what I already do in my leisure time. I do not take it for granted. Drawing is part of my job because I need to thoroughly test the brushes I make for Procreate. When I’m not drawing digitally, either for professional purposes, or for personal enjoyment, I stay in my sketchbook. I also draw on random scraps of paper whenever I find them in the kitchen.
I have articles I have been sitting on and editing— one of them has to do with the importance, at least for me, of keeping this “no stakes” drawing practice alive. For now, I will keep this short and simply share a few recent sketches. Some are observed, some invented, and some a combination of the two. If you want to see more of this kind of thing in this newsletter, let me know, and thanks for looking.
Unrelated, but I always like sharing cool things with you, so if you dig mid-century illustration, check out this treasure trove from illustrator Zara Picken.

Thanks for sharing this. It is a good reminder to just draw for the pure joy of it. I need more of that joy right now and it’s great to see your hand at play.
Yes! It is always inspiring to see your work. Whether digital or traditional, it reminds me of how much I love drawing.
